Catchment areas study of the Thomson-East Coast MRT Line Stage 4.

We believe that studying the TEL Stage 4 Stations is a good opportunity for the team to apply what we’ve learnt in this course to assess the value add of these stations, and at the same time give the public different perspectives on how these stations serve their communities, so that they can make their own judgment on whether these stations should be built in the first place. Methodologies that we have utilized are: 1) Preprocessing of the data and 2) Utilizing ISO-Area delineation method using the QNEAT3 Plugin in QGIS. We found out that residents of the catchment areas of the TEL Stage 4 stations have to travel a significant distance to reach their nearest existing MRT stations. However, the majority of the TEL Stage 4 stations serve residents of low-rise housing buildings, which means that there is a significantly lesser population being served. With the development of the TEL Stage 4 stations, East Coast Park will be accessible not only by bus or private transport, but by foot with a 10 minutes walking distance from Marine Parade and Katong Park Station.
